Book Review: The Walking Dead- Compendium One

Michael finally got me to start watching The Walking Dead with him.  The show is interesting and dramatic.  It has you hooked the minute you begin watching.

Well, since we've been watching it I decided to get Michael the comic for Christmas.  But instead of buying each one individually I went ahead and got The Walking Dead: Compendium One. It has issues 1-48 of the comic in it.

Michael sped through it and almost didn't put it down.  I can't remember the last time he read something so fast.  So I thought that I would give it a read.....

And let me tell you.....
source

I couldn't put it down either.  It just sucks you in.  There are some parts that I absolutely HATED seeing.  There are somethings I could have gone my whole life without ever thinking about.  But at the same time it was just fascinating.

Personally, I like the TV show better.  It's way mild in comparison to the comic.  Much more my speed.  But if you enjoy the show and want to get a taste of the original, pick it up and give it a shot.

Be warned, it is GRAPHIC and INTENSE.  And do not bother getting attached to anyone.  No one is safe.  Even if you've seen the show.... even if you think you know... don't get to like ANYONE.  You'll thank me for it.

The Secret of NIMH

Do you remember The Secret of NIMH? I have to say that this was truly one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I really couldn't tell you why I was so drawn to a cartoon movie about a mouse, some hyper intelligent rats, a crow and cat. But this movie is magical.

Last night as we were sitting down to try and decide what to watch together as a family we came across this on Netflix and immediately Michael and I were ready to watch. More so than Sidda and MJ were. This was a movie of our childhood and we wanted to share it with our children. And watching it last night, it was as good as I remember.

There are so many movies and TV shows that you remember as a kid only to view them as an adult and see how truly terrible they were. The Secret of NIMH is not one of those movies. I loved watching it again. It was brilliant!

Hoarders

I am completely obsessed with the show Hoarders. This is one of those reality shows that I watch and can't get enough of. Do you know what hoarding is? Hoarding is when people can't get rid of things, no matter what they are, and the stuff just takes over their home.

For the most part what covers every square inch of the home is trash. I don't know whether it's laziness or really a compulsive need to hang on that causes people to keep garbage. It just blows my mind. I have seen episodes where children have been taken away from their parents because they just can seem to keep their home in livable conditions. There is one thing in common with all the hoarders and it seems that everything stacks up and then all they have is a small pathway that leads from room to disastrous room and have one tiny spot that they usually spend there time in.

I saw a case so bad that the house was so full of stuff that when the family happened to get bedbugs they had no way of fumigating the home that the critters just took over. The family, instead of cleaning up their mess decided to just start sleeping in a tent in the yard. They had 4 kids. It was just shocking to watch. One recent episode said that the crew emptied out somewhere around 8000 lbs of trash from one room. One room! Eight thousand pounds! Unbelievable!

Needless to say it does make me feel better about my home. My home does not always sparkle but we are never covered in garbage. I'm glad to know that we don't have any issues with getting rid of things.

Here is a short clip from one of the episodes so you can really see how these people live. I really don't know how they do it.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More with Feeling

I have a soft spot for musical TV episodes. I am drawn to them and will watch them over and over again. Netflix has helped in this. The entire Buffy series is on Netflix. I had never watched it before watching it last year. I had no idea of the awesomeness that was waiting for me in the sixth season. The musical episode has become a favorite in our household. I love every single song but since I can not choose which one to play for you I will give you Michael's favorite:

Netflix

I recommend Netflix to everyone. Everyone should have it if they like to watch movies and tv shows. It doesn't always have the most recent episodes on the instant view but it does have entire seasons of shows for you to watch.

It's also cheap. We have the one DVD at a time plus unlimited instant view and pay $10 a month. This to me is totally worth it. Especially since it helps me completely monitor what my kids are watching instead of them watching random tv channels. My favorite part though is that there is no commercials to suck my children in. Neither Sidda nor MJ knows what is popular when it comes to toys or cereals or anything else. If we are at someone else's house and they happen to be watching television and a commercial comes on they are confused. They really don't know what they are and I am happy about that.

I have discovered new shows that I've loved through watching through Netflix and have tried out shows that I would never have watched in other circumstances. Mainly British TV, which I love.

If you do not have netflix, get it, it's so worth it. And they let you do a free trial to test it out which it awesome!

Phineas and Ferb

Phineas and Ferb is probably one of the best cartoons on TV right now. It’s great for both kids and adults. I can sit and watch it with my five and two year old and laugh right along side with them. It’s not a stupid funny show but creative and awesome!

The show is about a pair of super smart brothers who are trying to find things to do each day of the summer. The don’t just hang out in the back yard paddling pool but instead somehow create a beach. The build rollercoasters, rockets, time machines and so much else. Their older sister Candace spends all her time trying to tell their mom what their doing but fails everytime. Each episode features at least one song, sometimes more that are just awesome.

This is my favorite song:

It's just plainly awesome! And there is more where that comes from. If you want to enjoy an easy cartoon that the whole family can watch I recommend this.

Glee

I know that I am way behind when it comes to TV watching. I hardly watch TV if it’s not on Netflix or a DVD. We don’t even have cable because we never watched it. Because of these things I am behind on the awesomeness that is Glee.

I’ve heard people talk about it. I’ve heard that it was good but recently I saw that it was on Netflix and I figured, why not? I gave it a chance. I’ve now watched the entire first season in a matter of a few days, because I couldn’t get enough. I can’t wait for season two to finish up and then come out of DVD so I watch it.

Oh yeah, and keep this under-wraps, but Michael likes Glee too. He watched every episode with me and he probably won’t admit it, but loved it as much as I did.

I think the actors, dancers, singers, all of them are extremely talented and have done a wonderful job in doing their part of this show. The writers are awesome in what they come up with and its all very enjoyable.

This is by far the best scene in the whole show!
