Book Review: Rock Chick

I have no idea what made me want to read Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley.  I think it came up on a book recommendation on and I decided that I wanted to read it.  I had no idea what it was about when I picked it up.

Indy is apparently a rock chick because she likes rock n' roll and dresses somewhat trashy.  I guess to each there own.  But ignoring the constant references to bands and her clothing choices the story wasn't bad.  It starts off pretty quickly with Indy is in hiding after just been shot at.  Along with her friend Rosie.  Indy doesn't want to return home just in case those who shot at her know where she lives.

She doesn't even know why she is being shot at.  It's really all Rosie's fault.  He had something that belongs to someone else and he's not giving it back.  This is why she ends up at Lee's house.  She has known Lee her entire life, and she has always been in love with him.  Lee never seemed to feel the same but there is something different now.

Now Lee wants Indy too and he will do whatever it takes to have her to himself.  Including getting in the middle of this shooting situation.  But it's ok because it's what Lee does for a living anyway.

There are plenty of moments of page turning action and enough comic relief to enjoy this story as an easy read.  There were some moments when I found myself chuckling and smiling as I read Indy's antics.  The last half of the book really catches it's stride as the beginning at times felt winded.

If you like easy reads that are assuming, I recommend it.  I don't think I'll be venturing anymore into next 8 installments of the Rock Chick series (yes there are 8 more books).  But this one was fun as a stand alone novel.

Virtual Makeover on

Today I got to play with to test out some looks with some an option to buy the brands that you are checking out.

There really is a difference when I look at these two photos.  My skin is smoother and brighter, my eyes are more defined, and my lips are colored simply.

It's a very basic look and it changed so much of my face.  I was able to try out specific branded products that I had never tried before to see how they would look on my face with my skin tone.  While I played around I saw that red lipstick does not work for me and neither does blue eye shadow.  I like much more simple colors.

I recommend that you give this a shot.  Play around with some looks, try something new, find out what you like.  It just might surprise you what will work for you.

The Little Things

Yesterday I was reminded of how it's the little things that really matter.  Sure, the big things matter but it's the little things that make our every day.

Yesterday I was in the kitchen making breakfast and I looked out into the living room and saw this:

Sidda and MJ were cuddled together on the couch talking to each other.  I don't even remember what they were talking about anymore but they were having a conversation.  They weren't fighting.  They weren't running around like maniacs.  They were sitting together in the early morning and just talking.

This was a scene that I love to see.  I love that I get to witness this between them.  I love how close they really are.  Sidda and MJ really are the best of friends.  My hope is that they continue in this closeness that they have together.

I never got to have this kind of relationship with my brother.  I think there were just too many years in between us for us to hang out in this way.

There is nothing better than knowing my kids have a relationship beyond brother/sister and are friends.

What's for Dinner?- Taco Fajita Crockpot

Yesterday was a busy day.  There was school to teach, a house to clean, meals to make and company coming over.  That was all piled up on top of very little sleep because a certain little baby decided she didn't want to sleep, nor did she want to be awake.

I wanted something easy to throw into the crock pot that would make dinner super easy.  I looked around to see what I had on hand and just dumped it all in.

Taco Fajita Crock Pot Recipe

3 Chicken Breasts
1 can diced tomatoes
1 bag frozen corn
1 bag diced onions and 3 peppers (frozen)
1 package taco seasoning
1/2 cup of water.

Just dump everything in and cook on low for 6-7 hours.  Shred chicken and service over rice with shredded cheese.  You can add sour cream if you like as well.

It was delicious and baby approved!

Anya is 1!

Can you believe how fast the last year has gone by?  Yesterday Anya turned 1.  She is a whole year old now.

We took her in for her check up and she weighs 19lbs 14oz and is 28 1/4 inches long.  Basically she is short and a little chunky.  She is the smallest out of all three kids.  I may have at least one child who will not tower over me as an adult.
Anya had fun exploring the exam room

Anya is now walking.  She is practically running at this point.  She started taking steps about 3 weeks ago and has quickly progressed to a full fledged walker.  Now if I could only get her to wear shoes...

Anya still loves to eat.  She has no problem trying any food that we put in front of her and she has yet to really reject anything.  It's great that she is so willing to try new foods.  Sidda and MJ were not so willing, even at 12 months old.  It's like a while other world.

I know what you are waiting for.

Let's talk about CAKE!  Anya had her first cake yesterday.  And I actually made it and it didn't look awful!

Anya's cake

Sidda and MJ helped decorate the cake that everyone else ate.

Happy Birthday Anya
Anxiously awaiting cake
I'm not so sure about this
First taste of frosting

It's pretty good
She finally dug in and wants to share

Her hands are caked in frosting and she is trying to shake it off

After cake!  What a mess!

She really had a wonderful birthday!  Now we are looking forward to watching her grow in her second year.
