Les Cinq Amandes

Let's talk about fancy, yet simple gifts.  I was sent some samples from Les Cinq Amandes to check out their custom gift collection.  And from even first opening the box I was amazed.  These little treasures are beautiful.  I had no idea how pretty they would be when I first took them out of the box.  It was a great surprise!

Aren't they beautiful!

These are the custom baguette of  Chocolate Dragées.  They are colored beautifully and surprisingly delicious with its sugarcoating on the outside and chocolate on the inside. They have many color choices.  So your design possibilities are endless.

This a is small box of a Renaissance sample.  It has a combination of Almond Monde Petite Pistachio Dragées, and Meringue.   They are all taste great and are beautifully made.

And finally the caramel.  Its so good and chewy.  Caramel is one of my favorite things in the whole world and this stuff is good.  I mean really good.  If I didn't have any self control I would've downed the whole little bag of it.  Yum!

The Les Cinq Amandes would be great for any kind of occasion that you wanted little favors for, like weddings, bridal or baby showers, birthdays.  Or even just as a little gift.

Speaking of gifts.  Les Cinq Amandes ( ) is giving my readers a gift!

Check them out and use code HOLIDAY10 for a 10% discount on your order.  That's a pretty nice gift.  You can send one my way!

This is a post sponsored by Les Cinq Amandes.  I was given free samples in order to review.

What's for Dinner?- Chicken and Chorizo Soup (in the slow cooker)

I don't know if you know this... but it has been super cold outside the last few days.  Brrrrr...  And when it gets cold it soup time.  My favorite kind of soup to make is Chicken and Chorizo soup.  To me this soup is somewhere between a soup, a chili and a stew depending on how I make it.

I first found this recipe on and it was pretty good.  I don't think I've ever made it exactly as it says because I like to mix things up a bit.  But here is how I like to make my soup.

Chicken and Chorizo Soup (in the slow cooker)
1 chopped onion
1 lb chorizo (we used deer chorizo)
1-2 lbs chicken (depends how much I want to use)
1-2 Tbsp Worcestershire
galic salt to taste
chili powder to taste
cumin to taste
(I use quite a bit of the seasonings.  I like my food to have some flavor)
minced garlic
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 cans corn
1 can black beans, rinsed (optional, I only add this sometimes)
2-3 cups of water or chicken broth (depending on how soupy you want it.)
1/2-1 cup of milk or cream (depending on how creamy you want it)
sour cream and shredded cheese to serve with.

I chopped up my onion.  I love onions.  They bring such goodness and flavor to other foods!

Throw the chorizo and onions in a pan and cook together until the chorizo is brown and the onions are soft. I added a pinch of salt while sauteing.  Drain.

Add chicken to the crock pot.  As you can see mine was still very much frozen.  It went in fine and tasted great when it cooked.

Add on the garlic salt and garlic and seasonings.

Add in corn, tomatoes, beans, chorizo, water/ broth (I typically use water with bullion cubes) and milk.  Cook of low for 8 hours or more.  Shred your chicken and stir.

I almost forgot to get a picture of the soup!  This isn't the best picture.  This is Michael's bowl and it was halfway gone.  Oops.  Top with sour cream and shredded cheese and enjoy.  We usually have cheese quesadillas on the side.  Yum!

I had friends over to share in our soup and this batch fed 5 adults, 5 kids and a baby with a little left over.  It makes a ton.  It also makes great leftovers.

150 Days of Psalms: Psalm 150

You can read Psalm 150 here.

Praise the Lord.  Everything, praise the Lord with sounds and music.  Everything that has breath praise him!

Let's be honest here...

I'm am so happy that this is the last chapter and that I will not have to dive into psalms again for a long time.  I really had a hope that by the end of reading them again I would fall in love with them.  That just didn't happen.  I can see where the psalms are beautiful but they do not penetrate my heart like they do others.  I guess I just won't ever get along with psalms.  That's ok.  I will still read them but I am happy to move on to something different.  Michael and I will need to figure out what book to do next.

You can read Psalm 147 here.

Anya 9 Months

Time just keeps flying on by, doesn't it?

I just can't believe that Anya is 9 months old.  She had her check up yesterday and the doctor said she is looking great.

Anya's stats:

weighs 18 lbs 8 oz
26 inches long

She is doing awesome.  She is a crawler and gets into everything.  The same day she started crawling was the same day she started pulling herself up on stuff.  She just always seems to be moving right now.

She loves, loves, loves food.  Neither of the other two ever have eaten as well as Anya does.  She enjoys her food but really wants mine.  Whatever I'm eating, she wants... even if its the same thing that she is eating.  Which it usually is.

And now we are waiting for her first Christmas!  It's super exciting.  Which will be quickly followed by Sidda's 8th birthday!  What!?!  Sidda's going to be 8?  I know.  I can hardly believe it myself.  Time just keeps going....

9 More Shopping Days

Yup, it's that time of year.  There is only 9 more shopping days until my birthday.  This year I will be the big 3-1.  Thirty-one.  Can you believe that?  I can no longer pretend I am just out of my twenties.  I am now a whole year into my thirties.

Where did the time go?

Do you remember when you were in high school and the years crept by so slowly?  I remember feeling like I was  never going to drive, never going to graduate, never become an adult.  And now... now I am in my thirties and the years seem to be flying by me.

I won't even get started on how fast my kids are growing up... (it's just too fast).

So what do I want for my birthday?  Michael has been asking me this for the last few weeks.  I haven't really been able to answer.  I just haven't known.  So I've thought long and hard.  If money and time were not an issue these are the things I would want for my birthday.

A Shopping Spree.

Yes I'm a girl.  I like clothes and I need new ones.  I want fancy schmany make me feel pretty clothes that I actually want to put on.  I'm getting tired of the same old look and would love something new.  I just wish I knew what it was.

A Serger

I like to sew.  I don't have as much time for it as I would like... but still.  I would love to have a serger.  It would make sewing more fun and sometimes easier.

Lemon Tree

There are lemon trees that you can grow in containers.  In your house.  They are awesome and I super want one.  I think it's beautiful and convenient.  I never seem to have lemons when I need one for cooking.  If I had a lemon tree I would have all the lemons I would ever need and still have some to share.

A Keurig

I drink only one cup of coffee a day.  This would be perfect.  One cup brewed just for me.  Close the lid and press the button.  That is my kind of machine.

Side Cross Necklace
I love these necklaces.  I just think that they are so pretty.

A Vacation

I want an awesome vacation.  I want to travel and have fun.  I could go to a theme park or to the beach.  I would be ok for traveling far away too.  I would love to take a long vacation and see parts of the world I've never been.

A Super Fat Cat
I am fully aware that I already have a full house.  3 kids, 3 cats, 2 dogs and a husband already keeps me pretty busy.  But man, I want a super fat cat.  I always have.  They look so squishy and content.  There is just something about a cat that is the size of a small human that just makes me smile.

In all seriousness.  For my birthday I just want to spend time with the people I love that like having me around.  I like to keep things simple and easy.

What's for Dinner?: Veggie Pizza My Way

One of my favorite things to do with Sidda is to make homemade pizza.  She loves helping with sauce and the toppings.  I love making a delicious pizza crust that my whole family likes.

We always make 3 pizzas whenever we have pizza night.  A cheese for Sidda and Anya, a pepperoni for MJ and a third one for Michael and me that's not so basic.  Lately, we have been making veggie pizza.  This is more than your average peppers, mushrooms and onions pizza.  It's so much for and I love it!

I put a little oil in a pan and saute some stir-fry frozen veggies.  In the bag there are green beans, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, celery and red peppers.  Then I added some frozen pearl onions (these are super tasty!).  And finally I added some spinach.  I let it saute until the veggies were crisp.

On the pizza crust I put some marinara sauce, then the sauteed veggies followed by some pizza cheese.  We put the veggies under the cheese because it helps keep them from following off while eating it.  Put in a 500 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, until cheese is melted and crust is crisp.  This time we added a couple of pepperonis to the tops too.

Don't let the picture deceive you.  The veggies are under the cheese!

150 Days of Psalms: Psalm 129

You can read Psalm 129 here.

Israel has been persecuted over and over again.  But God did not abandon them.  He stayed with them through all the chaos.

Those who are against God will be shamed.  They will not stand forever.  They will not be blessed.

Five Minute Friday: Tree

Everyone I know thinks that we are crazy!  Our Christmas tree is already up.  Our decorations are all over the house.
Well, I love Christmas!  There is such a great joy that come with waking up in the morning and walking into the living room and seeing that tree standing there.  I also love seeing it when I walk into the house after being gone all day.  It's a reminder to me.  It reminds me of why we celebrate Christmas.  The love of Jesus and all that he has done for us.
Five Minute Friday
My kids look forward each year to Veterans Day.  That's when we decorate and they know it too. We chose that day because we know that Michael will be off from work and we will have time to take care of it.  We can spend the whole day as a family decorating the house and the tree and having a great time.
The weirdest part of it all?  We watch Harry Potter while we decorate.  It has become our tradition.  We love the movies but only really watch them around this time of year.  We save it up and it gives us something to look forward too.
We are never much for being normal I guess.
What are your Christmas traditions that other people might think are weird?

Book Review: The Bride Wore Size 12

It's another installment of the Heather Wells series.  The Bride Wore Size 12 by Meg Cabot reminded me a lot of the third book in the series Big Boned.  I really feel like Cabot just phoned it in to try to round out the series.

The was a super slow read for me.  I had a really hard time getting into it.  Which is sad because I really enjoy her books usually.  But they just haven't been doing it for me.  It seems like the whole book is the very slow build up with literally nothing happening and then boom it ends.  It was not my favorite, that's for sure.

Heather Wells is planning her wedding to Cooper.  They are excited to get things going.  But Heather is soon distracted by her mother showing up unexpectedly after being gone for the past decade.  Oh and there is another death at the dorm she works at.  Classes haven't even started for the semester and people are already dying.

So what's a girl to do?  Solve the crime, obviously.  While being super nosy and getting into everyone else's business.  Heather just can't help herself.  She has to know who is murdering her students.

I really had high hopes, but it just didn't deliver.
